Twenty
or twenty-five years ago -- I can’t remember now -- people around my age were
called the “Me generation”. We wanted things to be as we thought they should
be. We struggled for what we thought was
right. Although there were excesses, the
label was not a bad one, for I believe we do everything for ourselves,
consciously or unconsciously. But,
speaking for myself, something all-important was missing: I largely forgot
about God, or that of God in me. Now I
think that the “Me generation” didn’t go far enough: I should say “me first” --
I’ll go first -- when it comes to acknowledging and serving God, when it comes
to letting go of symbols and self-righteousness in favor of giving and real
satisfaction. It just works better.
